Biodiversity
Are you thrilled when you see a beautiful bird nearby on a tree branch? Does the sight of a tiny lizard scurrying to hide under a bush make you smile? Do nature videos inform you in a pleasant way?
Then by definition you are a supporter of biodiversity. You know, they need you.
If you dwell on the topic, you know the need for your support in a variety of ways, beyond just money given to worthy nonprofit organizations, is worth your time and effort, if on a small scale.
Let’s imagine for a moment seeing you put up a hummingbird feeder or seeds feeder for birds and a bird bath in your yard. These small efforts, kept up for longevity, are tantamount to the best efforts of scientists, both formal and citizen scientists. These good people are studying the best of nature to inform all of us, and your backyard or balcony efforts are more generous than you can fathom.
Let’s say you have access to a backyard or side yard or front yard. Each of these can be made into a sanctuary in a flash.
All you need to do is plant from someone else’s cuttings some fruit bearing plants that you can enjoy from and share willingly with insects as pollinators or birds, for example. So you both benefit, and the time it takes is minimal. If the trimmings are donated to you from a friend, it bonds the two of you for future conversations about how the plants are doing, and this is a social plus.
Bring biodiversity to a central position in your yard spaces, and reap the rewards of seeing your generosity to so many species, that it will make your heart soar each day.
Now that’s a reward irreplaceable.
